Garden Profile

…it is the beginning of summer and our garden beds are looking like a party that just hit full-tilt boogie. Greens popping, color exploding-there’s a surprise to discover each morning! This two-centuries-old house that our family occupies is the first home my husband and I ever purchased. Now, 25 years have passed in the blink of an eye. When we moved in, the backyard was “blah”, sitting in stark contrast to the unique home that we loved upon first sight. One of our first projects after getting settled was to disassemble a pool and surrounding deck and set about building raised beds for a four-bed perennial flower garden. A pergola followed to anchor the space and over time, a stone fire pit was added. This garden of ours has hosted countless parties, we have spent hours chatting and laughing around the roaring fire on autumn evenings, and playing bocce and corn-hole with friends and family. Additional herb, vegetable, and flower beds have provided even more beauty and interest over the years. I look at us, along with the improvements we’ve made and the magic hours we have created, as stewards-making this little part of the world a good and beautiful place which, one day, will pass to a new owner. Until then, we enjoy every minute and every bloom.
